After You dessert and cafe, Bangkok

Stressed? Eat desserts.

There is always one thing that can make me feel happier whenever I feel moody and that is DESSERT.

After you desserts and cafe was one of the most well-known dessert cafes in Bangkok and their dessert pictures frequently appear in my instagram's explore page. I have seen a lot of pictures of their desserts like the french toast and kakigori. I thought to myself, those desserts look so delicious.. Sigh.. if only I get to try them..

I finally had the chance to try them out during my Bangkok trip!

My dad who is very strict about his diet had kept insisting us to try out this dessert shop because he had heard amazing things about their desserts from his friends. During the second day of our trip, he kept saying to me in mandarin: "girl, hurry up with the shopping, I want to quickly have my dessert at After You". This shows how popular this cafe is for its desserts. I'm not even exaggerating but After You is literally the best dessert cafe my family and I have ever been to.

To all dessert lovers, let me share with you why I think this place is so worthy to visit. Let the pictures do the talking!

Siam Paragon

IMG_4655
This is the After You dessert and cafe logo along with their tagline "there's always room for dessert".

IMG_4656
The branch that we firstly visited was the one located in Siam Paragon, G floor.
We had to queue and wait for our turn.

IMG_4663
After getting your seats, you can make your orders at the cashier. Remember to tell them your table/seat number and they will hand you a number stand. They will then serve the dessert to you at your table.

IMG_4664
Here's a picture of their menu.

IMG_4665
This is how the inside of the cafe looks like.

IMG_4666
Aside from selling toasts, beverages and kakigori, they do sell a variety of items such as fresh strawberries, cakes, spreads and cookies.

What is kakigori ?
Kakigori in japanese means shaved ice dessert flavoured with syrup or condensed milk.

IMG_4668
What I like about the dessert shop is that they do serve free cold tea. 🍵

IMG_4671
As you may have known from my previous posts, yes, we visited this cafe on the second day of our BKK trip.

IMG_4674

IMG_4675

IMG_4678

IMG_4681
After you dessert cafe is tucked in the Sweet Avenue street along with other dessert stores.

IMG_4685
This is the main star of the post : the famous mango sticky rice kakigori, 265 baht. 🍨

The mango sticky rice kakigori comes with a dollop of coconut cream on top of the finely shaved mango ice along with extra mango sauce and coconut cream on the side.

The mango shaved ice has a really smooth and fine texture compared to the regular japanese shaved ice desserts in KL. The ice melts instantly in your mouth and is not chunky at all. The mango flavour is not overpowering; just the right amount of mango taste. The coconut cream was milky but slightly sweet and salty.

The surprise? You'll find the sticky rice hidden underneath the ice after you have done savouring the top layer of the dessert. The sticky rice was also good, fragrant and not too sweet.

What do you think about the presentation of the kakigori?
I find it super cute because looks like a tiny mt. fuji!

I give this kakigori a rating of 11/10 💕

IMG_4695
Honey Shibuya toast, 195 baht. 🍞🍯

The toast was also good. It comes with a dollop of whipped cream and two scoops of vanilla ice cream- one on top of the toast and another next to the whipped cream. The toast had a buttery taste to it which makes it yummy. Not forgetting to mention that the crust of the bread was crunchy but soft on the inside. We prefer eating it plain like this than to drizzle the honey syrup on it.

IMG_4692
The desserts look really pretty and cute. 😍

IMG_4698
Strawberry cheesecake kakigori, 265 baht.

My mother enjoyed this a lot. As the name suggests, this plain looking kakigori does come with a cheesecake in it. The strawberry cheesecake kakigori comes with real strawberries and strawberry sauce on top of a bowlful of finely shaved milk ice. Same as the mango sticky rice kakigori, it does have a really smooth and fine texture. Extra strawberry sauce served in a tiny little jug is also provided on the side of the tray.

IMG_4696
Here's a picture of the three desserts together. 😍💞

Centralworld

IMG_5173
The After You branch in central world is located on the 7th floor, which is the highest floor of that mall.

IMG_5171
It is located next to the SF World cinema and can be easily spotted.

IMG_5172
We came here on the 4th day of our trip.
By the time we reached there it was almost about 9pm-ish already and there is still a long queue outside of this shop.

IMG_5170

IMG_5180

IMG_5181

IMG_5188
Then I came across this little fridge that contains tiny boxes of popsicles(?) with the cute durian pictures on it. These are actually durian ice-creams or better known as the durian crumbsticks.

IMG_5190
I'm not really sure if these are new or they have been selling it for a long time.
I did not try it out because I don't really like durians but for those of you who love durian, you may give this a try while you're there. 😇

IMG_5193
The cafe does provide pictured-menus for your reference.

IMG_5197
The process of ordering does become easier with the guide of these food and beverage illustrations on the menu.

IMG_5445
Same as the Siam Paragon branch, they do provide free teas for their patrons.

IMG_5200

IMG_5202
Can't eat a lot? Fred not, they do serve some of their desserts in smaller sizes/portions but it is subjected to the availability of those flavours.

IMG_5206
Strawberry cheesecake kakigori. 🍓

IMG_5211
Mango sticky rice kakigori. 🍨

IMG_5443
Then on the fifth day of our stay in BKK, we came here for another round of desserts again.

IMG_5442

IMG_5458
We had the same desserts again.

IMG_5455

IMG_5460
On the 3rd time of our visit, my sis and I have mastered our skills in eating mango kakigori. Look at how clean our tray was! Hahaha. It was like an achievement for both of us because we have never tried eating shaved ice without creating any spillage on the tray.

Thoughts

Which dessert did I like the most? I would say the mango sticky rice kakigori. This mango shaved ice, by far, is the best-shaved ice I have ever had. I'm not even trying to exaggerate about it. Everything about this shaved ice is incredible- the texture and the flavor were excellent.

😋👉🍨👏

Urgh, blogging about this just makes me crave for the mango shaved ice again.

Mousse Cheesecake?! Worth the hype? - The Tokyo Restaurant Isetan, Lot 10

About a month ago, my sister and I made another dessert discovery through Facebook. Yes, through a Facebook post again.

This time, the discovery is about a cheesecake that was boldly claimed by a few food bloggers as 'the best cheesecake in Kuala Lumpur' that they have ever tasted so far. Woah. That is quite a strong statement I would say. That got me wondering- WHAT'S SO AMAZING ABOUT THIS CHEESECAKE? 😕

How fancy can a cheesecake get?

I mean, most cheesecakes are either baked like the new york cheesecake or bake-less. I have never imagined cheesecakes existing in any other forms until I made my recent visit to The Tokyo Restaurant in Isetan, Lot 10. Let me share my dining experience with you guys through the pictures below.

Untitled
The restaurant serves both japanese cuisines and desserts. It even has a bar in the restaurant itself.

Untitled
Located on the 4th floor of Isetan, this restaurant is recognizable by its simple brown wooden tables and chairs and red fabric decorations hanging from its ceiling.

Untitled
I actually went to this restaurant with Char (not with my sister..) on a monday afternoon.

Untitled
Upon entering the restaurant, the staff asked if we were there to have desserts only and our replies were yes. Then we were seated at a high table right next to the bar. The above are the food (white) and drinks (brown) menus. 📜

Untitled
We ordered just a slice of cheesecake to share. Didn't order other stuff since we were only interested in trying out the cheesecake. It's called the 6th avenue cheese cake, priced at RM19 per slice.

Untitled
After waiting for around 10 minutes, our cheesecake is served! 😍

Untitled
6th Avenue cheese cake, RM19. 🧀🍰

The cheesecake comes with a dollop of soft whipped cream. On our first impression, we both thought the cheesecake looked pretty ordinary. The sides of the cheesecake appeared as if they were torched or something because it was brown in colour. The cheesecake is served cold.

The noteworthy thing about this cheesecake is that its texture is very soft and mousse-y! Now I know why everyone likes this cheesecake so much. The cake literally melts once you put it into your mouth. It has a creamy cheese taste but not overwhelming. 👌

The whipped cream has a rich milky taste to it which I really liked. Eating the cream on its own is delightful but I find it even more delicious if eaten together with a bit of the cheesecake. The cream brings out the milky flavors in the cheesecake yet maintaining the cheesy flavors of the cake. So yummy! 😋

Untitled
Besides the cheesecake, we have also ordered a pot of jasmine tea for RM10 which I think is worth the price since it is refillable. 🍵

Untitled
What is more perfect than pairing a slice of cake with a cup of tea?

What are my thoughts on this 6th Avenue cheesecake?

It was worth the hype since the cake is delicious and it has a mousse-like texture which makes it exceptional compared to most cheesecakes. However, if you're there with your family or friends, I would recommend ordering just a slice to share between 2 persons as too much cheesecake may overwhelm your stomach.

Would return to this restaurant again for desserts!

Bangkok, Thailand trip - Day 4 (The EmQuartier, Asiatique, Central World, Erawan, Amarin)

Let me start this post off by sharing an interesting fact about our trip with you. When we were there, we had tom yam almost everyday, be it tom yam noodles, tom yam soup or anything tom yam flavoured. We were literally on a tom yam fever or something.

Since the weather in Thailand is always hot and humid, it is advisable that you keep a mineral water bottle or two in your bag pack so that you can always stay hydrated while you are on the go. Otherwise, you can just easily buy some mineral water from the nearby convenient stores or shops if you ever feel thirsty. Coconut water and fruit juices are also good alternatives to mineral water since they are cooling and refreshing. Another important thing is to put on some SPF and wear shades or a cap/hat to prevent getting sunburns and you will be good to go!

We started the day off by having our breakfast at McD inside the Big C supercentre. I was pretty excited to give their McD a try since they serve certain food items that are unavailable in Malaysia such as the pork burger and fish fillet rice dish. We only got two items off the menu which are the samurai pork burger set meal and a cheesy fish burger with omelette. Only my mum and I had our breakfast at McD because both my sister and dad had already taken their breakfasts in the hotel room.

IMG_4881

IMG_4886
Mum ordered a set of signature pork (kuro buta) burger, THB 199. 🍟🍔

IMG_4892
This burger is from the signature series hence the fancy presentation.

IMG_4893
I took a bite of it. In my opinion, I think that the taste of the burger is quite okay, the buns were soft, veggies were alright and the patty is sort of juicy. The fries tasted the same as the ones in Msia but saltier.

IMG_4889
Here's my cheesy fish burger with omelette. 🍔🐟🍳

IMG_8393
To me. there is nothing really noteworthy about this burger. It's just a regular fillet o fish with an omelette and some cheese (mild cheese flavour). But I have to say, the fish fillet tasted fresher and softer than the ones in Msia. 😲

Later that morning, we walked over to Platinum mall to have early lunch. Well I didn't eat here since I have just eaten a fish burger and I'm already full by then. 😐

IMG_4902
Sis was really obsessed with the mango sticky rice here.

IMG_4905
Sipped on some coconut water, refreshing and fragrant.

IMG_4906

After lunch, we went over to Amarin plaza to have a look at the shoe fair.

IMG_4912

MVI_4914_Moment
This is what Amarin plaza looks like inside. It's a small shopping mall.

MVI_4915_Moment
Then we went into miniso to look at some stuff.
What I like about their miniso is that they do sell a lot of cute collab items like these pink panther plush toys, we bare bears plush toys and items and moomin themed merchandises.

MVI_4917_Moment
I remember that the miniso stores in Malaysia do sell these we bare bear items but sadly, it seems like they didn't restock them. Dio once gifted me a tube of we bare bears lotion that she got from miniso Msia and I fell in love with it. I was searching for that lotion in all miniso stores in Msia but none of them seems to have any stocks left. 😔

MVI_4917_Moment(2)
They do sell a lot of really cute we bare bears merchandises like face towels, neck cushion, tote bags, tshirts and etc.

MVI_4918_Moment
But sadly, they do not sell the lotions here as well.

MVI_4918_Moment(2)
Grizzly bear and pan pan is here to say hi! 😀

Later that afternoon, we took the bts to the Emquatier mall located in Sukhumvit. We got on the bts at Chit Lom and got off at the Phrom Phong station.

MVI_4921_Moment

IMG_4929

MVI_4930_Moment
As usual, the bts was really packed with people. 😑

MVI_4932_Moment

Finally got off the train and headed to our destination.

MVI_4933_Moment

MVI_4933_Moment(2)
There was a shaded pedestrian walkway in front of the mall's main entrance, how thoughtful of them.

IMG_4939

IMG_4940
I like how the escalators emit a ray of bright blue light.

IMG_4943
Exploring the food garden at the LG floor.

IMG_4944
There are a variety of restaurants and cafes here. 🍴

IMG_4948

MVI_4953_Moment

IMG_4955

IMG_4956

IMG_4961
We stopped by a dessert stall to get some desserts.

IMG_4962
They also sell these beautiful luk chup packed in boxes.

IMG_4966
We got some coconut milk jelly from the dessert store. The jelly was made of agar. Cold and tasty.

IMG_4969
We then went to the food hall to get some food (obviously).

IMG_4970
Things to like about this food hall- it is clean, brightly lit, aesthetically pleasing, A+.

IMG_4975
Just like the other food courts, you have to buy a food card before making any food or beverage purchases.

IMG_4976

IMG_4978

IMG_4979
All the stalls in the food court have bronze-colored overhead menu boards.

IMG_4983
I had a bowl of plain fish ball noodles, once again. 🍜

IMG_4984
Vegetarian tom yum noodles. 🌶

IMG_4990
Hainan chicken rice. 🍗🍚

IMG_4993
A cup of sprite.

IMG_4998
I can't stop taking pictures of the seating area in the food court because their decorations were really nice. 🌿🌵🌴

IMG_4999

IMG_5006
After finishing our meal, we went upstairs to do some exploration.

IMG_5007
We came across this Harrods cafe which was located at the ground floor. There are quite a lot of Harrods cafes around Bangkok (including the one in this mall).

IMG_5008
What's interesting is that it also has an ice cream parlour! How cute is that! 😍

IMG_5009

IMG_5010

MVI_5012_Moment
These are some of the ice cream flavours offered by the cafe. 🍦🍨

MVI_5014_Moment
They also have unique flavours such as bubble gum and midnight rose. That bright blue ice cream looks interesting too!

IMG_5017
My sis got the midnight rose flavoured ice cream (89 baht) while I got myself a milk soft serve (85 baht).

IMG_5018
My milk soft serve ice cream was pretty normal, nothing really special about it since it tasted just like some ordinary soft serve to me. However, I really liked how they decorated the ice cream with a small bar of chocolate with the word 'Harrods' printed on it and not forgetting to mention how cute the ice cream cups were.

IMG_5029
The mall's view from one of the outdoor levels.

MVI_5031_Moment

IMG_5033
Walked past a store that sells household items and I was attracted by these fake plastic balloons that were attached to the ceiling. At first glance, I thought these were real balloons. 🎈

IMG_5045
Then we went to 5th floor of the outdoor area.

IMG_5046
There was this huge round transparent glass floor tile at the center of the bridge/walkway that connects both ends of the malls together.

IMG_5047
Will you be daring enough to look through the big glass tile?

MVI_5035_Moment
Oh and the fifth floor of this open-air area is actually a bar. It gives me a tropical kind of vibe.
🌴🌵🌲🍃🌺

MVI_5035_Moment(2)

MVI_5041_Moment
I walked over the glass tile but I didn't really look down because it was a bit scary to me.

IMG_5050
The view from the outdoor area. The bts station is just next to the mall if you can see (the one with the green roof).

IMG_5051
The open-aired bar's name is Escape.

IMG_5060
Not sure what this is but it seemed like another bar seating area or maybe it's an activity area?

MVI_5059_Moment

IMG_5062
This section of the mall is filled with lots of plants/greenery with a man-made stream that looks like a mini waterfall too. 🌱🍃

IMG_5070
It reminds me a lot of the rainforest area in one utama shopping mall.

MVI_5069_Moment

IMG_5091
We're now at the Helix Quartier- you can find a lot of restaurants in this section of the mall.

IMG_5092
The iconic spiral-shaped plant structure.

In the evening, we went to Asiatique. Firstly, we took the bts from the Phrom Phong station then we took an interchange bts at the Siam station and headed towards the Saphan Taksin station (turquoise Bang Wa line). It took us quite long to reach the Saphan Taksin station as there were many stops along the way.

After arriving at Saphan Taksin, we headed towards the direction that says 'Asiatique' and continued walking till we find the Asiatique free shuttle boat service pier.

Just to share with you, the pier has two different types of services. One of it is the FREE Asiatique shuttle boat service while the other are river cruise tours or some other boating services which requires payment. If your aim is just to get to Asiatique and not else where along the river, just take the free shuttle boat that has the word 'Asiatique' on it.

IMG_8408
The journey to Asiatique took us around less than 30 mins by the free shuttle boat service. The boat ride was quite thrilling as you may be splatted with a little bit of river water onto your face whenever the boat makes a turning. 🚤

IMG_8412
Asiatique The Riverfront.

IMG_8416

IMG_8417

MVI_5095_Moment
We're finally here, at the Asiatique riverfront's entrance.

MVI_5095_Moment(2)

MVI_5095_Moment(3)
Asiatique is a open-aired mall with many restaurants, souvenir stores and small boutiques.

IMG_5100
According to some of the online websites, this place will usually be crowded during the night. Well, it is not surprising at all because this place only opens at 5 pm and it is famous for its beautiful night views.

IMG_5101
We didn't stay in that place till night time because it was kinda meh to us and it was hot.

IMG_5105
The symbol of this place- an anchor. ⚓

IMG_5106

IMG_5111

IMG_5113
There are a lot of small boutiques here that sells trendy and casual clothing.

IMG_5116
This place has a ferris wheel that overlooks a part of Bangkok's city. 🎡

IMG_5119
The admission fee was RM40 per person.

IMG_5120
In my opinion, it's just not worth the RM40 for a ferris wheel ride as it's kinda pricey.

IMG_5129

IMG_5130
There is a Muay Thai arena if you'd like to watch live muay thai matches.

IMG_5137
An hour later, we decided to take the free shuttle boat back to the Saphan Taksin pier to catch the next available bts back to the Chit Lom station. 🚉

IMG_5158

IMG_5162

IMG_5164
Once we got off at the Chit Lom station, we will see the Erawan Shrine on our left from the pedestrian bridge.

We went over to centralworld for our dinner.

IMG_8423
Had dinner at hachiban ramen again. Sis was really hungry so she ordered two bowls of ramen. Mum, dad and I shared another bowl of ramen together. 🍵🍜🍴

IMG_5171
Later, we had our desserts at after you.

IMG_5172

IMG_5170

IMG_5211
Ordered two kakigoris to share. 🍨

MVI_5214_Moment
When we were on our way back to the hotel, we stopped by the Trimurti and Ganesh shrine to take a look.
