Summer 2019

I swear I'm not crying as I'm typing this..

This can't be happening..

My summer holidays have come to an end!
😥🍃🌴🌅🌻

Cheh, I thought you had anything else to say.

Now I can no longer do whatever I like- that includes going to bed late, waking up late and sleeping for as long as I like. And worse, school's starting soon again. *groans*

But on the bright side, I really loved this year's summer holidays despite not doing anything really productive. Unlike previous years, this year, I got to rediscover my passion for art and craft and I did lots of things that I felt enjoyable.

I don't really have any interesting stories to share with you guys since most of the days I stayed home  but I'll just update you guys what I've done for the past 3 months briefly.

You ready? Here goes nothing.

1. I made my first ever explosion box

For my sister's friend's birthday. I might upload a video of me doing that whole thing sometime in the future. Wait, cross that, I don't know if I'll ever bother to upload that video because I'm just really lazy to edit it.

2. I visited the national science museum

I updated this before in a previous blog post so you can always just check it out.

3. Realising that tea bags make a pretty good filter

I had sore throat the other day so I went ahead and made myself a cup of honey. As I looked into the cup, okay this may sound disgusting but yes I saw dead ants floating on the surface of the drink. I didn't want to waste this cup of expensive honey so what did I do? In order to save my cup of honey, I decided to filter all these dead things out of my cup. In that very moment, I thought I'd trying using tea bags as the filter. I ripped a bag of tea which I didn't really like, took all the contents out and started pouring my honey drink into the tea bag. To my delight, it worked wonderfully! The honey drink came out clear and free from any disgusting ants.

4. Learning watercolour background printing techniques

Through youtube.

5. Writing calligraphy again

Using mixed tools like watercolour brushes, felt tip pens and gel pens. I really enjoyed writing them.

6. Catching up with Brenda

We went one u then Ikea to look at some stuff. It was a great day!

7. Catching up with my high school friend, Tham

We had lunch together and then went for ice cream. Also a very great day.

8. Got myself a tiny plant

I always thought it's nice to have a plant on my study desk so that it'll look more lively and less boring.

9.  Indulging in Queen musics, updates, pictures and etc

I won't deny, I do this on a daily basis but during the hols I tend to spend more time on doing it.

10. Watched Bohemian Rhapsody again, TWICE in the cinemas (this year)

Borhap is the best movie ever, period. I wouldn't mind watching it over and over again in the cinemas because the audio is the best there.

11. Reading my first ever fan fiction

On Freddie Mercury. I'd never thought of reading these things until an internet friend of mine recommended it to me. It was bloody GOOD. #noragrets

12. Had my first Godiva chocolate ice cream

I'm not a big fan of chocolate so chocolate ice creams are not something that I'd usually crave for. One evening, as I was shopping with my mum and sis at KLCC, I saw many people holding cones of these delicious looking things. So I went ahead and ordered one. It was the best chocolate ice cream I've ever tasted, so far. It's really smooth and creamy. I kinda liked it.

13. Went on a boba craze

I believe many of you did as well. After trying so many brands and types, I think XFT has the best brown sugar milk tea whilst Chatime has the best roasted bubble milk tea. I have actually stopped drinking these since weeks ago because I think too much sugar in the system messes you up badly.

Tried the boba ice cream from softsrve and it tasted very much like the real boba tea, but less rich in flavour.

14. Visited Petrosains

I have nothing much to say about it but I did upload a video of the trip on youtube.

15. Visited the Batu Caves

It was an unforgettable experience. There were so many flights of stairs! The climbing wasn't easy considering the stairs were quite steep. Not forgetting to mention, there were lots of monkeys on both sides of the stairway. The cave itself was beautiful!

16. Gotten myself a new camera

But I haven't had much chance to use it because I didn't go anywhere interesting nor did I come across any interesting things to capture. But I hope I'll be able to put it to good use anytime soon.

17. Going shopping with my sister

It's something we do frequently anyway.

18. Painting my own pieces

On canvases using watercolours. One of it is a blue abstract painting and the other is a Queen album.

19. Watched 'Yesterday' - The Beatles themed movie

It was an okay movie. I enjoyed it but it's not as good as Borhap, at least in my opinion. After watching this movie, I get to learn and recognise a few Beatles hit songs.

20. Learned basic Spanish

Through a free app. I absolutely enjoyed learning it.

& I've graduated from law school, if this also counts as one of the events.

That's pretty much all the things I've done throughout my summer holidays.
I really enjoyed wasting my time during throughout this summer.
I hope I'll get the chance to do this again in the future.

LLB

I have great news that I'd like to share with all of you here-

I'VE GRADUATED FROM LAW SCHOOL!

I'm so so happy! 😆

After 3 years of hard work and invisible tears (because I don't cry easily), I have completed my law degree and soon I'm be embarking on a whole new crazy journey. I'm thankful for all the support and love I've received throughout my university days and I'm blessed to have met all these amazing friends who have never stopped motivating and guiding me along the way.

I must say, doing a law degree wasn't easy (no flex intended) and for those who have taken up a law degree course before would know the struggles we need to go through every single day just to get all the knowledge into our heads. I'm proud to say I have never skipped any classes before. 😌 In fact, my friends and I frequently attended extra classes just to get that extra knowledge. I have never regretted any of these before because in the end, it's all worth it (despite the tiredness)!

All I have to say is that I enjoyed my university life so much. The degree may be strenuous but I really enjoyed studying the subject itself. I really appreciate how the lecturers tried making every classes fun and easy to understand for us. Another most memorable part of my uni life is that my friends and I would sometimes travel to the city via LRT or MRT in between lunch breaks just for fun. 😂

So what's next for me?

I'll be attending CLP classes for an entire year and I have a feeling that I won't be active in social medias anymore, especially in youtube and blogger. CLP is a really tough course that requires a lot of hard work and persistence. With that being said, I can no longer fool around and I have to really give in my best shot in order to achieve good results.

Long story short, I've got the LLB already guys!

My thoughts on metal straws

It's 2019 and according to various sources, our ocean is contaminated with loads of plastic wastes ranging from plastic bags, to plastic cups, lids and all kinds including that one tool which everyone loves- plastic straws. Why is this bad news? The obvious reason being number one, it contaminates the water source and number two, it endangers the lives of the ocean creatures. It's never cool to see a turtle having a piece of plastic straw pierced through its nose and having to suffer that pain all its life.

So, the ultimate solution was to ban all plastic straws and reducing the use of plastic products, especially plastic bags.

I think it's a good initiative to reduce the use of plastic products so as to reduce plastic waste. Now, there are many stores, mall kiosks or even online websites are selling reusable straws that are made of glass, bamboo, plastic, paper, silicone and metal.

The main focus of me writing this post today is, as the title suggests, my thoughts on using metal straws as an alternative to plastic straws.

I'm not against the use of metal straws completely and the below are my opinions.

Why use metal straws?

Good question.

1) Durability

The main reason why everyone loves using these metal things is because it's really durable compared to other types of materials. It doesn't break easily. You don't even need to replace it so often.

2) Cheap

It costs about RM2-8 per piece depending on the size and which seller you buy it from. It's a lot cheaper than using paper straws.

3) Easy to wash

Provided you have a straw cleaning brush, washing becomes a really easy task.

-

Look, using metal straws gives you so many advantages! But what is the risk of using such things? Will it cause any harm?

I have two metal straws on my own and I frequently use them to drink ice cold beverages. I really like sipping on sodas using straws. Technically, I just cannot live without straws.

However, the truth about metal straws is that it can cause serious harm if not used cautiously. I'm not sure if most people are aware of a recent case where a woman passed away after a metal straw had pierced through her eye and brain because she accidentally tripped and fell over the metal straw. Yes, this really happened you can go google about this news online. To cut it short, the most serious risk of metal straws is that it can cause fatal injuries.

Besides that, I noticed whenever I accidentally knock onto the end of the straw, even the slightest knock can cause a cut on the lip or worse, the gums. The cut made my lip swell and not to mention it was awfully painful too. As such, I personally think that we shouldn't encourage the use of such straws when it comes to children or the elderly.

So what now?

My final thoughts about metal straws are that despite the many advantages, there remains the risk of injuries using such straws. Children and the elderly are not encouraged to use it as they are more on the vulnerable side.

I agree that the use of plastic straws should be reduced but I think we should not ban it completely as there are still groups of individuals like children or the elderly would need to use them to prevent unnecessary harm and accidents. To those who wish to use metal straws, do exercise them with caution to prevent any injuries.

Alternatively, use reusable plastic straws or even paper straws if you wish to cut down plastic waste.

I have switched to using a reusable plastic straw as a safer option. I'll still use the metal straws that I have but not so frequently anymore because I'm very clumsy 😓
